You Are More Than Welcome - A Big Meal Together

Hi everyone, 

Since we posted our last update, we have some developments to let you know about!

#1: Consultation

As you know, a year ago we were going to have a Big Meal Together to celebrate all the people from outside the UK that live in Plymouth (and their allies). Then, in March 2020, we had to cancel these plans as the UK went into lockdown.

In January 2021, as we looked ahead to try and re-plan the Big Meal Together, we realised that it was unlikely we would be able to organise a large-sale indoor event like this for in the foreseeable future, as lockdowns continued and before any government 'roadmap' was in place.

We got in touch with all of our backers to ask them for their advice to help us to decide what we should do with the funds raised via our 2020 crowdfunding campaign.

#2: Our survey said...

The overwhelming response from backers matched our own gut-instincts - that we should re-distribute the money raised to the 3 organisations we named in our campaign - DCRS (Devon & Cornwall Refugee Support), START (Students & Refugees Together) and Plymouth Hope.

So, that's what we did! We got in touch with each of the organisations and transferred the cash to them in February 2020 - so that they could put it to use in the community, at a time when they needed it most.

#3: "Mini" Big Meal Together (online lunch)

As a special thank you to all backers, and their friends and families, we have organised a "mini" Big Meal Together - and we'd love you to join us!

This will happen on Fri 14th May 2021 - 12:00 noon - 1:30pm on zoom. Bring your sandwiches (or whatever food you like!), log on and hear about the great things your pledges have gone on to support.

We know it is not the same, but we hope this is a nice opportunity to get together, share a meal and hear about the amazing work from START, Plymouth Hope and DCRS.

#4: The future of Big Meal Together

We really hope there are ways to do more with the Big Meal Together idea here in Plymouth in future - and maybe, some day, we'll be able to. At the moment, we're seeing how things go as the country starts to re-open and re-adjust to a post-Covid world.
