We need your help to get the brewery and taproom over the line. We’re so close to finishing our new home for indie beer and community.
When we started the Yard project in November last year, we thought of asking the community to help get us started. At the time we were in panic mode - no brewery, dwindling stock, dwindling cash. If we were going to keep Hand Brew going, we needed help!
Crowdfunder?
But instead, we created a plan where if we got brewing in May, we would just about be able to manage the finances ourselves. There wasn’t much contingency finance-wise or time-wise, but we were confident we could do it.
We just needed a new site, site surveys, layout plans, planning permission, licenses and license variations, finance for a brewery and taproom, time and people to build the brewery and taproom, new services connected, consultants and lawyers and solicitors and consultants.
It’s a tiny list, where’s the risk?
Well. We’ve all seen Grand Designs and been part of projects that overrun. Where the plans have to change and the costs spiral. And when hidden costs come out of nowhere and give you a big slap in the face - and those hidden ones are always massive and critical. And sometimes you simply have blind spots - we missed a few things.
But we’re so, so close to getting there. We can nearly smell the Shaka.
The taproom is basically ready and it’s beautiful. But we’re still waiting for planning. The brewery is nearly commissioned. But we’re still waiting for the license.
So what are we asking for?
We’re asking you for help to get us over the line. We’ve got a big chiller to install, wire in and commission; a big cold store to buy and build; final electrics; and what seems like 100 other little things.
With your help, we can get over the line and start all the fun stuff we’ve got planned.
