Aim

I will open 'Wye weight' - A zero waste shop for Monmouth.

I am a local person who is bringing conscious shopping to Monmouth and making it easily accessible to all.

I have been selling eco friendly, ethical alternatives to everyday items and gifts via stalls at local events for nearly 2 years and feel now is the time to take on a new challenge.

Wye weight will provide customers with the opportunity to purchase eco friendly / plastic free / ethical / low waste products including dried food goods from hoppers directly into customers own containers, a range of refills for body care and household products and other items such as bags, cloth nappies, reusable menstrual products, soap bars, deodorants and more.

Wye weight is for people seeking a plastic free, zero waste and greener lifestyle in Monmouth, and the surrounding towns and villages. It will help you to reduce your environmental footprint while also supporting local producers and makers, as locally produced is about as sustainable as you can get in terms of food/product miles. Access to zero waste shopping, will directly help reduce the amount of waste our town sends for disposal, and reduce the amount of waste that ends up littering our streets.

I think this is the perfect business for Monmouth because it is an increasingly eco conscious town. Our town has received 'plastic free status' awarded by Surfers Against Sewage for efforts to reduce plastic within local businesses and council and there are many members of the community who have taken part in the 'school strikes for climate'  movement inspired by activist Greta Thunberg.

Wherever possible locally grown produce and locally made products will be stocked, to support other small businesses. Products will be sustainable in their production, transport and packaging and come from ethical and cruelty free producers.

I will aim to make shopping consciously as affordable as possible to our community.

Your help will buy the zero waste equipment that will make sure your shopping experience is quick and easy. This equipment includes specialist scales (example picture above) that allow for the use of own containers or paper bags and the corresponding till and payment systems. This will cost in the region of £4000. It will also pay for first in first out food dispensers, jars, scoops and other relevant bits and pieces.

Never before has reducing waste and reusing what we have been more important. Hate plastic in the ocean? Zero waste shops cut out all that individual packaging that can end up in our water systems. Want to reduce your carbon footprint? Zero waste shopping helps to reduce energy consumption related to the production of throwaway 'stuff'.

I really appreciate any support you can give and greatly look forward to meeting you as a customer in the store soon!
