Fleetwood Hospital Development. Help turn the dream into a reality to change lives for the better.

The Fleetwood Hospital Development requires your support, every £1 raised will assist the project and were asking for your help. This is a request to ask for your help to "turn the dream into a reality".

The 3 storey block has been leaking for several years due to its dilapidated state, and a substantial roof repair has now taken place.

We will be applying for various grants however before the internal works can begin we need to replace all 162 windows and rely on the support of the community and businesses to assist with the cost of £1,000 per window that includes the removal of the old window and installation of the new windows supported by high-lift equipment.

The project is about creating a new ‘community hub’ for Fleetwood, somewhere residents can help to create then meet, engage and take pride in for the long-term benefit of the Town.

This is your opportunity to make the project something special, this is by Fleetwood people for Fleetwood people.

Fleetwood members of the community to become involved as ambassadors, spreading the word and creating partnerships. Local people who are actively engaged in tackling issues and in helping to realise the communities potential established Fleetwood Trust.

The churches that provide the voluntary services in the town suggested the idea to buy the mainly derelict 60,000 sq ft Fleetwood Hospital building, with a view to turning it into a vibrant hub for the community, to give people a long term stake in the future of their community a location in the heart of the town bringing people together from right across communities from a variety of backgrounds to work for a better future together.

In November 2018 Fleetwood Trust purchased the freehold of Fleetwood Hospital from Blackpool Teaching Hospitals with the aim of turning the building into a Community Hub and addressing the identified needs of the town and giving the belief that the people of Fleetwood can, and should, take increased responsibility to tackle the issues that affect the community.

The Fleetwood Hospital building, which had fallen into disrepair and was underused. The redevelopment of Fleetwood Hospital will bring the significant building back to a place and space that matters to Fleetwood. Part of the building was still in use by the NHS and is now rented back to the NHS for Outpatients.

In December 2018 it was announced that this project has been selected as one of HRH Prince Charles 7 for 70 projects for his 70th year. The Princes Foundation will support 7 Community Projects across Great Britain with Fleetwood Trust being the only project chosen for the Northwest.

The redevelopment plan is likely to include:

A 32 Bed Intermediate Care Ward operated by the NHS – patients leaving Victoria Hospital but not well enough to go home. An elderly gentleman, in his nineties, was very poorly essentially dying from old age, he was sent to the other end of the Fylde to receive the specialist care required. The hospital is not easy to reach by public transport and his family had to get two buses taking over 2 hours each way to visit him. The cost and time involved meant that in his final days he and his family were unable to see each other as often as they would have liked. Pharos Ward, where he lived, is in the top 10% of deprived wards in the country. To expect his family to be able to afford the bus journeys more than once a week is absurd. This care ward will benefit so many people.
