Alison Wuther, an aspiring actress, is offered the role of a lifetime after an incredible audition but is told that she will only get the role on the basis that she gets her face surgically swapped for Bonnie’s, a woman who the audition panel deem more conventionally attractive. Initially Alison is vehemently against the idea, despite her manager Mr Mann urging her to go forward with the operation. Alison toys with the idea, imagining herself with a different face, which eventually leads her to meet with Bonnie and form a gentle companionship in their shared struggle with the standards placed upon them. But they are not alone as The Panel keep a watchful eye over the two women, to ensure a ‘lucrative outcome for all’.

As our film is very highly stylised and we are aiming to achieve the horror aspects through practical effects, a large portion of our budget will be going towards production design and special effects make-up.
Other portions of the budget will go to feeding and transporting our wonderful cast and crew, securing locations, and distribution and festival costs.

WUTHERED is a project that I feel very strongly about. Telling a story that discusses a universally problematic issue in such a candid way is very important to me. The genre of horror is something I want to tap into within this project, this acting as a manifestation of toxic beauty standards and their consequences in a way that is visually engaging to the audience. I am keen to explore the unconventional in my work, thinking outside the box to tell stories in unique ways.
As a student of the BA (Hons) Film course at Edinburgh Napier University, I have honed in on my own directorial skills and style, and with a past in post-production, have gained a well-rounded understanding of filmmaking as a whole. I intend to bring this experience to the project with the intention to create a collaborative and creative environment both on set and beyond!

I have a background in production design which has influenced my love for practical effects and venturing the uncanny and phantasmagoric worlds through film.
I believe that exploring the normalisation of extreme beauty standards and the consequences it has, particularly in the film industry, is incredibly important. This is a deeply relevant topic in society today, and with the influx of female-centric stories releasing right now, this is the perfect time for WUTHERED to come to life! I am a passionate production designer who is interested in creating strange and captivating visual worlds. I have worked on a range of genres on both stage and screen and enjoy blending creativity with practicality, ensuring every detail enhances the storytelling to craft immersive environments that resonate with audiences. I believe that every single prop or set decoration can enhance both the narrative and the characters, telling the story of a life before and after the camera.
WUTHERED is an important project to me as the themes of extreme beauty standards and conformity are particularly resonant topics. I hope to both highlight and turn these tropes on their head through the visual arts, using props and costumes to explore this complex subject matter. I am also a lover of body horror, and the opportunity to create my own twisted human forms with SFX is a dream come true.

Hello, I'm Léonidas and I'm the editor of WUTHERED!
I am a 4th year Napier undergraduate who has specialised in editing and other post-production jobs such a VFX editing. Proficient in both PremierePro and Media composer, I have been editing films since an early age, allowing me to hone my skills and discover all kinds of new techniques.
Being passionate about horror and feminist issues, I am particularly engaged in this project. There are a lot of beauty trends within Gen Z that subtly attempt to confine femme-presenting individuals into tight fitting boxes that end up not only harming them individually but harming progress towards gender equality. WUTHERED directly addresses these modern issues that desperately deserve more screen time in this day and age. I have also edited multiple horror projects before and I'm excited to bring this one to life.
Hiya, I'm Gaby and I'm the sound designer!
I am a Sound Designer and Recordist at Napier who loves all things otherworldly and uncanny. My past work includes short films on which I've built detailed soundscapes, expanding the world beyond the frame. I believe in always putting story first and working closely with all departments to create a cohesive world.
I am very exited to work on such a vibrant, hyper-realist film. I plan on experimenting with electronic distortion, uncomfortable frequencies, and gross squelchy body sounds to throw the audience off-kilter and dive deep into the horrific absurdity of WUTHERED's world. The exploration of heightened beauty standards - self abasing yet necessary, the push against yet the pull towards, the area between desire and refusal - is a space that I am excited to explore and support through sound, and a topic I care about and am drawn to.
