Aim

We are wanting to convert two rooms that aren't currently being utilised into a Studio. This would allow us to offer classes, courses, etc.

Wem Swimming and Lifestyle Centre is a leisure centre in the heart of Wem, Shropshire. We are a charity run centre, with the aim of providing accessible fitness and wellbeing for the community of Wem and surrounding areas.

We are a small leisure centre, with limited space. We are hoping to convert two existing staff areas into an area that can be used by the local community and members. In this area we are hoping to be able to provide fitness classes, run courses such as First aid, and Lifesaving, provide nutrition advice and improve sessions we already offer, including Social Prescribing, and Parties.

We have applied for a Grant with Sport England for the conversion of the room. Sport England have agreed to award us £10,551 if we can match the funding.

We plan on spending the money by converting the staff kitchen and staff changing area into a multifunctioning studio. This entails the removal of the toilet, shower, and kitchen appliances. The removal of the plumbing to these such areas. Relaying of the floor, and adding in new flooring and equipment.

The new Studio will be kitted out with new equipment, accessories and decorated.

Alongside this, we will be adapting another room into a new staff room, so staff still have a place to eat, do pool tests, and store equipment.

Community impact

We are wanting to provide a wider range of physical activity for the people of Wem and surrounding areas. Our aim is to provide a timetable of various different classes, these include specialised session such as 60+ classes, and Pre and Post natal classes.

We want to not just provide fitness class, but nutrition advice to go along side your fitness, so our aim is to run sessions helping and advising people with nutrition needs also.

The Studio is going to be used for running various different courses in First Aid and Lifesaving, in the hope that we can help local business, clubs, and community to get First aid training they may want/need.

Finally, it is also going to be a room for hire. So people want to hold social or business events can hire the room out.
