Wrapping Up Christmas

Home-Start Portsmouth is a local family support charity. We are here to enable parents in Portsmouth to be the best parents they can be for their children by offering them friendship, mentoring and practical help through volunteer support in their homes, family groups in the community, and support within the Portsmouth Family Hubs.  

Portsmouth is one of the most deprived authorities, with an estimated 45% of children living in poverty in the city. With rising costs, we will support families with these costs, so children do not have to live in cold, dirty conditions that come with hard decisions parents are facing this winter. We work with families directly in the community, as well as with key partners and local authorities to ensure the most deprived and unseen are getting the essentials they need to survive.

The cost-of-living crisis has seen parents choose between feeding themselves and turning on the heating, being able to fulfil basic needs becomes a luxury. We intend to support families through the winter with the basics to keep them warm so they can focus on other needs and provide additional support to ensure no home goes without.

The project will enable families to take control of their wellbeing by removing additional financial barriers throughout the winter. Providing additional items and support for households will enable parents to focus on creating a nurturing environment within the home for their children, look after their own wellbeing, and give them the tools to know where support is available through any hardships they may be facing.
