WPHI Upgrade: Improving Our Community Space

Aim
Upgrade WPHI: Improving our community venue with vibrant spaces, better sound, improved facilities and more local events for everyone!
We built WPHI from scratch, first as a pop-up in the old NatWest, then Withington Baths, and now here at the heart of Withington, all thanks to your love and support.
This building was gifted to the people of Withington over a century ago, before becoming a private, men only club known locally as the ‘Homewreckers’. In 2019, the ‘Homewreckers’ closed their doors and in 2020 we moved in, transforming it into an open, welcoming space for everyone.
It’s thanks to you that we’ve steered WPHI through Covid, inflation hikes, soaring energy and supply costs, and rising wages, and we’re still here, stronger and more determined than ever.
We’ve already transformed WPHI from a private men’s club into an inclusive community hub, hosting your mental-health meetups, art workshops, poetry and film nights, live concerts, theatre shows, christenings, hen dos, and everything else in between. If it’s happened in Withington, it’s probably happened at WPHI.
Rising costs threaten to slow us down just when our community needs us most, so we’re inviting you to be part of the next exciting phase in our community’s story.
We cherish WPHI’s unique character and warmth, and we’re committed to preserving that spirit as we strive to make these essential upgrades:
- Modern, accessible toilets for everyone
- Improved disabled access
- A high-quality sound system to showcase local musicians
- Improved wifi
- Structural repairs and decorative improvements towards the comprehensive restoration of our original architectural features
- Improved lighting, seating and flooring throughout
- A new outdoor garden for lazy Withington summer evenings
