We are Fred and Stan Allsop, 2 Scouts from Suffolk. Please help us get to West Virginia, for a once in a lifetime adventure.
Hello! Our names are Fred and Stan Allsop, and we are 14 and 12 years old respectively. We have lived in Suffolk for 12 years, since our parents came back home, each having served for 22 years in the Army . We are both Scouts. Every four years, the organisation holds a Jamboree, an amazing chance for tens of thousands of young people to come together from across the world. It's a chance to try new things, experience different cultures and learn life skills, as well as have fun.
We knew some people who went to the last one in Japan, 2015, who all said how great an experience it was; we were very excited when the next one was announced, to be held in West Virginia, USA, in 2019.
You have to be able to represent your country on the Jamboree, so there was a long and difficult selection process, which we were both lucky enough to get through. We were thrilled to find out that out of over 500 people, we were part of the 54 Scouts in the Suffolk Units: we are really looking forward to the trip.
The 4-week Jamboree will take place mostly on one of the largest campsites in USA, but also includes staying with a Scout group in Canada, to experience their way of life; and a stay in Washington DC or New York City. As you can probably tell, this will be quite expensive!
The cost of the Jamboree is £3,850 each, and this also includes helping less fortunate people with their total, in countries where fundraising is very difficult. We are doing all we can, through things like Supermarket bag packing, film nights and car washing, but hopefully Crowdfunding will get us even closer to our target.
Thank you for reading our story, as long as it is! If you’d like to support us in any way, no matter how small, it would be greatly appreciated.
If you want to find out more about the 24th World Scout Jamboree, there is lots of information on both the Official website, and the UK contingent website.
Thank you again for any help,
Fred and Stan Allsop
