My name is Jawaid Khaliq MBE, I am a former IBO Welterweight World Boxing Champion.
The Jawaid Khaliq Boxing Academy has been operating successfully for the last 15 years in Nottingham. As an ex-world champion, I understand the importance that physical well-being and mental strength can bring to an individual’s life and how it can empower and change a person’s perspective.
Sadly, our existing work, achievements and vision for the future have come to a sudden halt. Due to the current financial climate our costs to run the Academy have trebled, this includes the cost of renting our current training facility and our utility costs. As an Academy we are simply unable to sustain this significant rise and will be left with no choice but to close the Academy. To put things in perspective our monthly rent of £368.00 will be increasing to £1,462, this translates to approximately an astonishing 300% increase in monthly rent which is simply unsustainable given that we are a social enterprise and primarily a volunteer driven organisation.
Our work is vital in keeping the youth off the streets, away from knife crime, gang culture and anti-social behaviours.
