ABOUT WORLD ANIMAL FRIENDS
WAF was first started in 2010 - our mission to support individuals helping to alleviate the suffering of homeless cats and dogs in countries where animal welfare has a low priority.
We assist in 3 main ways
We are a small but growing charity. We have helped a great many cats and dogs with the provision of food, veterinary treatment and neutering. We regularly send gifts of food, flea and worm treatments, beds and blankets, collars and leads, cages and carrying baskets to our friends abroad.

VETERINARY TREATMENT FOR HOMELESS ANIMALS
Providing veterinary treatment is an important aspect of what we do. Homeless cats and dogs living on the streets are susceptible to disease, and they are frequently involved in road accidents. When there is nobody else to help a sick or injured animal with the cost of veterinary treatment WAF will try to assist whenever possible.
We have helped cats and dogs to have fractured bones repaired, limbs amputated and eye removal surgery.

WE SUPPORT THE NEUTERING OF HOMELESS ANIMALS
Another very important issue for us is neutering- we arrange neutering prorammes to sterilise homeless colonies of cats and dogs. We endeavour to educate people on the advantages of neutering, especially in countries where it is not yet common practice.
KEEPING SHELTERS GOING
WAF regularly supports several animal shelters, including the ZenKa Cat Shelter in Serbia, Bojana's Dog Shelter in Serbia and Happy Endings Shelter in Bulgaria. Where any animal shelters exist in Eastern Europe they are run by individuals and are not lucky enough to have the support and volunteers shelters in UK have.
The Zenka Cat Shelter was started by Ljubuca Landeka 15 years ago and is now home to 70 cats. For many years Ljubica managed to keep the shelter going from her own funds, however she is now retired and living on a small pension. Without the support of Worlds Animal Friends the shelter could not continue. Donations from locals in Serbia are hard to come by- in fact, until we started to support Ljubica she had never received a single donation!

HOMELESS ANIMALS IN UKRAINE
WAF has recently started to support a wonderful project in Ukraine.
Anzhela Shevala is true angel for the animals. First of all, she is caring for a large number of homeless animals at two animal shelters, one in and one in. In addition she co-ordinates the feeding of a huge number of animals in the neighbouring war zones. She arranges for food to be distributed to "guardians" mostly older people left living in the war torn areas, and they feed the cats and dogs living on the streets in their neighborhood. Many of the cats and dogs were left abandoned when their owners fled or were killed.
WAF is helping to raise money for food and veterinary treatment for these vital project.

ANIMALS IN EGYPT
The situation for homeless animals in Egypt is particularly bad. In Cairo and Alexandria there are large populations of homeless cats and dogs that survive by scavening on the piles of rubbish that litter many of the streets. Most are in poor condition, they are malnourished and dirty. Road accidents are common and many become sick.
Animal welfare in Egypt is in it's infancy and there is no culture of neutering animals.
WAF is working with a number of individuals to rescue the animals that are badly injured and arrange for treatment and ongoing care.
We are hoping to establish an ongoing neutering programme in Alexandria.

PLEASE HELP OUR PROJECT
So many animals are suffering and are in need of our help - we urgently need to find a way to raise more funds.
We beleive the way forward is for us to open our own charity shop.
We need your help for this- we are a small charity and every penny we currently raise we spend on helping animals. We have started this project specifically to raise the money needed to start our shop.
We estimate we need around £15,000 to rent a small shop for a year, to decorate and equip it. By participating in our project you will be helping our organisation to grow. You will help us to increase our fundraising capability and as a result enable us to help more animals in need.
Whatever you can pledge to our project would be much appreciated. We cannot offer much as a reward - only our very grateful thanks and the knowledge that you are helping to alleviate the hunger, pain and suffering of destitute cats and dogs.
If you pledge £100 or more you will be invited to our opening party.
