The world is coming to Belfast. A volunteer race committee passionate about athletics and distance running is hosting the 12th IAU World Championships for 24Hour running. It will not be possible without the help of sponsors, local council, volunteers and the ultra running community with their clubs and families.
As a World Championship race, we will welcome 45 nations who will come with their crews and supporters to compete in Belfast. There will be 300 world class athletes, chosen to compete for their nation and an 'Open Race' with 100 competitors. A World Championship Masters competition is also now included. We need your support to make it happen and host a world class running event in Belfast.
It will cost £100K to stage and while we're delighted to have the support of title sponsor Schneider Electric and Belfast City Council, Energia, The Charles Hurst Group , Bombardier, who are funding a schools project around the Championship, and Athletics NI - we are still some way short of the target.
Your contribution to our £5000 Crowdfunder will be a big help in providing the following for the athletes taking part;
- Stocked fuelling stations (ultra runners eat everything from pizza to bananas to jellied sweets to keep their energy up across the 24 hours.)
- Night lights to show them the way.
- Shelter to leave kit in - our Irish weather means athletes may need a change like Formula One cars tyres!
- also like Formula One teams, these athletes will have a crew who need a space to call base!
Budget £5k
40 marquee tents - £2750
Stocked 'Fuel' stations for 400 athletes - £1000
Lighting - £1000
