Who are we?
The project is the brain child of Tim Ferguson (Cat's dad ) who wanted to put something back. So with a group of enthusiasts he set out to develop a venue which is a community not-for-profit organisation with the aim to enhance off road cycling across all ages and skill sets.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We are crowd funding to buy materials for the infrastructure. Whilst a lot of the manual labour has been undertaken by volunteers, the start up funds from some great supporters, to whom we are very grateful, have run out. So we are looking to the wider cycling community and enthusiasts to help out, and feel some ownership towards the venue.
How we’ll spend the money raised
The elements we are constructing first are as follows and will require a lot of building materials.
Gravel road: 6m wide and 200m long (this is the Start / Finish sprint lane)
Gravel path to the bottom of Hell's Steps: 3 meter wide, 60 meter long
Jet wash – 8 bike jet wash system (UCI approved & legal) sponsored by Muc-Off: we think the first of its kind in the UK?!
Commissaire cabin - "gotta look after these people .... no commissaires .... no races.... simples!"
Bridge of Ayes – a 3 meter wide bridge spanning the 6 metre wide gravel road – it goes over the top of the commissaires cabin
Podium – sheltered podium with MC platform
Field Kitchen – to provide for events.
IAG Steps – sponsored by IAG Build
Hope Technology - supporting many of the elements - in both construction and purchase of materials. BIG UP to HOPE :)
Community Impact
The community impact is huge not only will it enable national and regional races to happen here but it will also provide facilities for teams, clubs, schools and groups of friends to come together for practice and fun in all off road disciplines. Hopefully this will bring custom to local shops and businesses.
Free to use / access: YUP. The idea is to create / provide a training & race venue carrying no costs to the group / individual putting on a race or running a training. OUR PASSION IS YOUR PASSION ... and the less barriers = the greater benefit.
We want "bums on seats" - quite literally too (unless you are one of those riders who gets out of the saddle). So the community impact Woodside Cycle Centre intends to have is going to be enormous.
How you can play your part
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success, not matter how small....even the smallest amount will help i.e buy a box of nails.
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Do you have a business and would like to see your name on the course? Please contact us to discuss how we can work together.
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
