We are Woodgate Community Food, a foodbank run entirely by volunteers. We were started in June 2020 by local people who saw the need for additional food support for our community.
Our first food packages were distributed from Abi’s kitchen using supermarket surplus. We’ve grown and changed over the last 18 months and we now rent an old factory in the heart of our community.
Our principle is to provide top-up food once a week to those in need without having jump through hoops and provide excessive personal details. We are here for anyone who needs us. We have been supporting around 100 families every week for 17 months with thousands of hours of volunteer help and donations and small grants.
We have to pay for most of the food we give out and we have building maintenance, insurance, cleaning and storage to pay for. We don’t have any paid staff or any permanent council or government funding.
Our future is not secure but we are determined to continue as long as our community needs us. And we need you to help us. This crowdfunder will enable us to provide food over the winter months and add in some festive treats to our basic food parcels. Just £10 will provide one weekly food parcel to top up a household who are struggling with universal credit cuts and massively increasing fuel costs. This winter is going to be very harsh for many so please help us brighten things up a bit for those who really need it.
