WHO ARE WE?
Woodbourne is a Community Amateur Sports Club founded in 1961. We provide the opportunity for the whole community to take part in sporting and social activities, including football, cricket and crown green bowls.
We don't just focus on the elite but try to ensure that everyone gets an opportunity to take part in sport, that we all know is so important for our health and well being.
We welcome anyone to the club, maybe to spectate a game of cricket on a Saturday afternoon or even try their hand at a game of crown green bowls - its not just an old mans sport! Our youngest member is 4!
Woodbourne really is a down to earth, family friendly, grass roots club. We currently have a number of families who have three generations of members and hope that this trend continues.
The local parish council, the neighbouring church and our local school provide the support and encouragement to help us maintain the club as a focal point for the local and wider community..
One of our latest reviews recently described us as a 'hidden gem' ! What more could you ask for! 'Diane Clarke'
OUR SPORTS!
In total we have a total number of 150 members, made up of social and sports. Below is a brief outline of how each section operates -
FOOTBALL
We operate 10 football teams ranging from under 8s through to under 16s. These play in the Central Warwickshire Youth Football League. We also run a mini soccer camp on a Saturday morning for boys & girls aged 3-7 years which is seen as a feeder group for our Sunday Leagues.
CRICKET
Our senior side play in the Cotswold Hills Cricket League on Saturdays, our junior teams play in a variety of league and we also run Allstars and Dynamo coaching which is affiliated by the ECB.
We also provide coaching to juniors on Thursday evenings and are beginning to see some progress into the senior side.
BOWLS
We are able to cater for all ages and ability from tiny tots to 80 years plus, from absolute beginners to those who represent Warwickshire in the UK championship.
WHY WE ARE CROWDFUNDING?
The current decking area has proved to be huge asset to the club providing a permanent outdoor seating area. It has been of great benefit to all of our sporting sections and our visitors. It was built with limited funds available, resulting now in the need for repair work and enhancement. Over time we have purchased temporary canopies that have been destroyed by our great British weather! We now see the need for a permanent roof fixture, but also to add a disabled access ramp.
The car parking area is desperately in need for extension and renovation. As some of you will know our car park facilities are limited and we would like to extend this onto an area of the field. As you will see from the pictures below the pot holes are becoming dangerous and will ultimately result in damage to cars or people. We would also like to improve the drainage into the ditches.
HOW WE'LL SPEND THE MONEY RAISED
Improvements to the decking area will include replacement timbers that have rotted, permanent canopy and additional seating area. The cost has been estimated at £5000.
Car park extension into the area used in the summer months for additional parking, renovations will include filling of the pot holes, and levelling of the top surface. We shall also provide adequate drainage into adjacent ditch. Estimated cost in region of £15,000.
Completion of this work will provide easier access for our members and visitors.
HELPING TO CREATE A LOCAL LEGACY TO CELEBRATE THE SUCCESS OF BIRMINGHAM 22!
At Woodbourne we take great pride in being a Mulit Sports Club and we're delighted when the Commonwealth Games included all of our activities in their programme of events. Cricket, Bowls and Football.
The high profile afforded these sports by the games had a positive impact within the local community, encouraging active participation in developing new skills, interests and relationships.
We are able to offer coaching at all levels in each activity while recognising that not everyone will reach elite standards, we value and encourage all towards reaching their potential and enjoying their sport.
We are grateful for lessons learned from the Games in igniting interest and bringing people together to improve health and well being and providing a vehicle for social interaction.
It is a delight to see an 80 year old playing bowls with an 8 or 10 year old, with no one being concerned about age, gender or ethnic origin.
