About us
We are Tina and Kristina, and together we founded notnow Collective. Tina is a performer/director and Kristina is a writer/dramaturge. We are also two mothers. After having children we wanted to continue working as professional artists. But, we soon realised this is not easy: theatre industry is notoriously inaccessible for parents and carers, both as audiences and as practitioners.
We started notnow Collective in 2015 out of necessity to make our caring roles visible and explore ways of integrating parenthood into professional practice and quality theatre experience.
About the show
Wonderwoman: The Naked Truth, explores joys and difficulties of motherhood and deals with subjects less talked about: termination and first sex after the birth. The show is aimed at adults, but welcomes babies into the audience, making it accessible for parents and carers to take part (it was amazing to have had so many babies in the audience in Birmingham!) We use original writing, physical theatre, devising and storytelling/improvisation to tell our stories.
Development of the show was funded by Arts Council England and co-produced by mac, Birmingham, where it opened in May 2016.
What did people say about the show?
Very honest! No one speaks it out. Great show made me laugh! It’s truth I’m mum myself! Go girls. The show should have as many plays as possible.
Excellent, thought provoking piece. Most enjoyable. Deserves to be seen by a wider audience.
I thoroughly enjoyed some adult time in a child friendly environment! Loved the thought provoking content – great show. Thank you.
Captured the complexity of motherhood. Uplifting. Lyn Gardner needs to see it.
Their performances are at times like overhearing a really fascinating private conversation.
What do we want to do?
Wonderwoman The Naked Truth is going on a national tour in Spring 2017, aiming to reach new audiences and establish our young company. We are already supported by Sir Barry Jackson Trust, mac Birmingham, Derby Theatre and Attenborough Arts Centre. We will use crowdfunding to match our applications to trusts and foundations.
How will we use money?
The money will be used to develop the staging solution for Wonderwoman: The Naked Truth for easy touring and travelling.
Our aim is to create work which is sustainable for us, and affordable for our audiences by keeping the logistical expenses down. We want to be able to travel easily and at a short notice by making the show fit into a smaller vehicle and to store easily and affordably.
The money raised through this campaign will help pay our designer and the materials for our new staging. Please help us travel easily!
The funds from this campaign are a part of our matching funding, which will greatly contribute to the success of our Arts Council touring application.
