Women's Street Watch
We did it
On 1st November 2021 we successfully raised £10,550 with 306 supporters in 28 days

We are raising funds for volunteer training, and to expand our services as a women's street watch group (including buying a taxi).

New stretch target

  • Our women's street watch group helps women get home safely.

Our organisation was just a small group of friends two weeks ago. We self funded our own supplies. Then we were contacted by Bright Futures Young Women's Project, and they helped us speak to universities, and designed and funded our leaflets, and some of our supplies. Then we made an Instagram account, and in 72 hours we gained over 16,000 followers. We had no idea our small idea would suddenly get so big. Now we are CrowdFunding the costs of expanding from our little group of friends to a bigger team. Currently, we have 108 women who are waiting training to join our team.

In addition to fundraising costs for training, we have realised one of the biggest barriers for women to get home safely is that taxis, ambulance, and police won't take them home. So, we are buying a mini bus to provide free rides home for any woman who has been refused travel elsewhere.

All of our drivers will be women, DBS checked, and licensed with the council.

The fundraiser will cover the cost of the van, and one year of insurance.

We're confident our bus, and the expansion of our group in general, will help us achieve our objectives more effectively.

Women's Street Watch objectives:

- reduce strain on emergency services by reducing the number of non-emergency calls to 999 by providing first aid and safe routes home.

- provide training and qualifications, particularly prioritising women from marginalised groups including Black women, disabled women, and unhoused women.

- reducing instances of sexual violence and harassment against women by offering a physical presence on the streets, acting in a both a support capacity (pastoral care) and as a deterrent for potential offenders.

Thank you for your support. We are overwhelmed by how positive your responses have been. Thank you x
