 New stretch target

With extra fundraised pledges from supporters we will make our campaign bigger, extending our reach with more digital and non-digital assets. This gives us an even better chance of creating an affirmative consent law!

This year we’ll have lists of candidates for the Glasgow and Lothian regions. These seats are elected by proportional representation so results are fairer, giving smaller parties an advantage and making it one of the most important elections the Women’s Equality Party can fight. Last time, although the party was only a year old, we gained thousands of votes in Glasgow and Edinburgh – with your help we can win in 2021.

WE are campaigning for Affirmative Consent!

We want to see a Scotland where women really are equal. But while sexual violence continues with impunity we will not achieve equality. That is why, ahead of the Holyrood election, we are campaigning to end sexual violence in Scotland!

Over 13,000 women in Scotland reported a sexual crime last year, which was then recorded by the police - an increase of 100% in 10 years. Thousands more women are living in silence, having not reported. We are living through a national epidemic of sexual violence - it must end.

WE are not surprised that so few women report, or that so few cases are recorded. In Scotland, legally someone only has to have ‘reasonable belief’ that consent was given, perpetuating stereotypes about women ‘bringing it on themselves’.

That is why WE are calling for the law on consent to be reformed so it is unambiguous and unequivocal - WE want an affirmative consent law! Consent is not ambiguous and until our law reflects this, we will never be able to prevent sexual crime. It is time to end ‘reasonable belief’ in sexual consent.

But fighting elections is expensive, and that’s why we need your help.

Every donation, no matter how small, will be put to good use as part of our Holyrood 2021 Campaign Fund. We’ll be working as hard as we can, in as many ways as Covid allows, to make this an election where equality really matters. Even if we don’t win a seat this time, we’ll have won this election if we can change the law on consent.

Your donation could help to pay for our deposits for candidates, leaflets, a social media or a candidate’s childcare while she is working to achieve equality.

If 100 people gave £10 we could pay for our deposits for two regional lists.

If 10 people gave £25 we could fund a social media campaign.

Every donation really does count!

The legal bit…

As we're a political party we're required to run permissibility checks on donations over £500. These will be completed as you make your donation and therefore we can't accept anonymous donations over £500.

If you give over £500 your details will appear in our election returns, and if you donate over £7,500 your name will appear on the Electoral Commission website.
