Aim: To build new 2 lane nets crucial to our plan to provide dedicated women's hard ball and fit for purpose Youth and all ability training.
We're raising money to build a brand new 2 lane cricket net providing a vital capability enabling us to deliver our ambition to deliver sport, community and belonging into our community.
What the nets will provide:
Chew Valley Cricket Club was founded in 2022 with the ambition of delivering a sustainable process for cricket with a long term view. We understood that the future of cricket in the Chew Valley required a wider approach underpinned by community, youth and Woman's cricket. We have;
We will build a brand new 2 lane artificial turf netting facility providing the ability to train our youth and women's squad alongside our First XI.
Currently we train the adult squads on the same night which brings huge benefits in terms of motivation, skill share and driving a very strong sense of belonging.
Our current net is poorly sited, home-made and not fit for purpose.
When used during training it can only accommodate the First XI due to time constraints. This denies the women the availability of a critical training asset.
The Youth are constrained by the lack of capacity that the current sub-standard net can provide.
Having a 2 lane net, sited in a safe part of the ground will allow us to provide dedicated hard ball training for our woman's squad as we transition them safely and with a high degree of confidence to hard ball cricket in 2027.
As we have grown our club, providing cricket in many formats and age groups, we have built a fantastic community hub where the provision of sport and outdoor activity now touches over 200 people directly.
Providing a fit for purpose training facility will train our youth, girls and women into a lifetime of sporting participation.
Having a thriving softball women's section both league and non-league has been a very important part of the clubs development.
Many women and mothers who take part are brilliant role models to girls in the community and their children and have encouraged many girls to take up the sport.
Its imperative that we are able to provide these girls a route into hard ball cricket at the club so that they are able to continue playing competitive cricket as they graduate from our youth training process.
Having a woman's hard ball team by 2027 is a target as we will have a number of girls ready to move up then.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
