"WOMANEWER" is a new artistic project addressing violence and sexual abuse against women whilst promoting female empowerment.

We're still collecting donations

On the 29th August 2021 we'd raised £1,035 with 22 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

Coming out of lockdown and as a result of COVID-19, domestic abuse related arrests have risen by 24% and thousands of women in unsafe living situations in complete isolation. 30% Of women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence.

Our aim is to create a safe space for women to be heard, share their experiences and get support from a creative team of female individuals. You are not alone! The money would enable us to run free sessions, once a month from Sept-Feb to start with, for creative women to get together in a safe space. We would also organise an event for International Girls Day. Please see details below.

A SAFE SPACE - COMMUNITY FOCUS

The project would not exist without the women. The first instalment enabled us to connect to women outside of our main company, to dancers and non-dancers, women of all ages and backgrounds. We felt there was the need for a stronger connection and especially ‘a safe space’ to explore, create, discuss and feel comfortable about sharing past traumatic experience. We want to make women feel like they are not alone.

We would like to run a female led open session day, once a month for women to join and connect to the community and to themselves. This event would take place once a month in a refugee centre for Vietnamese, Cambodian and Laos - Centre 151 in Haggerston.

Every session would be composed this way:

  • Healing yoga: soft yoga flow, focused on grounding, breath techniques, tension release and self love.
  • Well being: This could be self massage, meditation, chanting, Sound healing…
  • Movement improvisation and creative tasks.
  • Creative activity such as life drawing, dried flower art, sewing etc.
  • Discussion with a talk leader followed by Q&A and open discussion.

These sessions are free of charge with priority given to the women from Centre 151, Shoreditch Trust and Sisters Uncut. We are actively encouraging women of all ages, who self-identify as black, Asian, ethnically diverse, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, non binary, neurodiverse or disabled.
