Aim

We're raising funds to equip new members for the Lowland Rescue team in Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire this winter.

WMSAR is the Lowland Rescue team for Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. We are on-call 24/7 to help the emergency services locate and rescue people in danger.

We are a team of 30 unpaid specialists in land and water search, and we are a registered charity. We're exactly like a mountain rescue team, but without the mountains.

We receive no funding from the government or police, and we rely on our operational members to pay for their own fuel, personal equipment and time. We ask an awful lot from our members in terms of commitment from them and their families.

In return, we are fundraising to equip our existing 30 members - and 10 new recruits who will start their training in the next few weeks - with some winter essentials to ease the financial burden on them.

Our initial target of £5000 covers the personal equipment for our members, and a protective shelter and hot-water dispenser. A hot cup of tea after a cold evening's searching will keep our members' morale up, and will keep them searching for longer.

Our wish list with indicative pricing is as follows:

  • Keela Cumulus MRT Jackets - £80 x 10 =£800
  • Hi-Viz Jackets - £12 x 10 =£120
  • Sealskinz Waterproof Beanie Hat - £25 x 40 =£1000
  • Sealskinz UltraGrip Waterproof Gloves - £32 x 40 =£1280
  • Duracell AAA 24 Pack - £11 x 10 =£110
  • Duracell AA 40 Pack - £17 x 6 =£102
  • Hot Water Dispenser - £60 x 1 =£60
  • Work Tent (2.5m x 2.5m x 2m) - £922 x 1 =£922
  • Waterproof Notebooks - £1.5 x 40 =£60
  • Blizzard Bag for injured persons - £18 x 5 =£90
  • High energy food bars - £1 x 400 =£400

If we hit our target, we will try to negotiate discounts on some of the above, and any excess funds will be spent on the training and equipment for the team. No funds will go towards paying members for their time.

Then we have an overfunding target of an additional £3500, which we would like to spend on equipping the team with rescue equipment for hypothermic casualties. We already have some excellent extraction equipment, but we could do with some specific cold-weather protection for any casualty we find.

Thank you so much for considering us.
