Aim

Wirral Greens are pushing hard to get a second councillor elected, and become an established group on Wirral Council!

We already have one councillor in Birkenhead and Tranmere. Our candidate for the May 5th local elections is Steve Hayes. Steve has been working hard supporting our campaigns for several years and would be a fantastic councillor!

Steve Hayes, with Green councillor Pat Cleary and supporters, in Hamilton Square, Birkenhead.

Just having one Green councillor has made a real difference. It has given us a platform to highlight Green issues, such as:

  • Defeating road building plans in Birkenhead
  • Pressing Wirral to do more to help refugees
  • Incorporating a Green electricity tariff into the Merseyside Collective Switch scheme
  • Promoting better facilities for cyclists and pedestrians
  • Divesting from fossil fuels within the Merseyside Pension Fund
  • Opposing the Council's support for the Tory attacks on the vulnerable (via Council Tax Benefit and Bedroom Tax)

This year we want to form a Green group on the City Council to ensure there is an even stronger voice pushing for the changes Wirral needs!

Achieving our target of £500 will pay for three leaflets delivered to every voter in Birkenhead & Tranmere. This will give Steve Hayes the best possible chance of joining councillor Pat Cleary in the town hall, and will make the Green Party an established force in Wirral politics.

Please help Wirral go Green in 2016!!
