Can you help us be there for Bradford this winter?

New stretch target

Every penny raised for Mind in Bradford is used to further advance our mission - to support those in crisis, help people on the road to recovery, build community and individual resilience and provide early intervention advice and support.

Can you help us be there for Bradford this winter?

Winter can be a difficult time of year for many of us. Feelings of loneliness and social isolation are amplified, and finances are often stretched around the Christmas period.

This year perhaps more than others, many people will also be struggling with bereavement and loss. Some of us may be facing winter unemployed, for others this may be the first Christmas without a loved one. The impact of the pandemic on our mental health will be felt more than ever.

If we don’t act now, the next pandemic could be a mental health one.

We want to support more people to get through these winter pressures. Through your support we can raise vital funds towards:

  • Delivering more befriending and wellbeing support to people experiencing loneliness and isolation
    • Last year, we made 2,370 calls over 12 months to 165 individuals through our befriending service. As winter approaches, bringing with it shorter days and increased worries for people - in particular around flu and COVID-19 - we want to be able to continue and expand this work.
  • Offering essential telephone helpline advice over winter to people when they need it most
    • Following the outbreak of COVID-19, we saw the number of new callers to our help-line, Guide-Line, double. This appeal will help us to continually increase and develop the support available to local people reaching out for support.
  • Providing a safe space, care and hope in times of crisis
    • Last year, our crisis service the Sanctuary supported 992 people on 2,995 occasions. Attendances went up by a third following the outbreak of COVID-19, reflecting how many more people are seeking help as a result of the pandemic. This winter, we want to ensure that there is always a safe space available in times of crisis.
  • Being there for our children and young people impacted by hardship during this time
    • Bradford has one of the fastest growing populations in the country, and our young people have been severely impacted over the past two years. Know Your Mind, our children and young people's service, provided 634 one-to-one and group contacts and supported 51 people individually in its first six months. We want to continue to be there for Bradford's children and young people throughout what could be a difficult winter for many.
