We would like to open a drop in winter warmth hub, community sessions where people can access a meal, socialise & receive practical support.
We are in an area where we are seeing a real impact from the rising cost of living. We believe this will increase in pressure over the winter months, so we would like to provide a warm place for people to come and access. For many, they are struggling with the rise of gas and electric, so to provide a drop in where they can come, have a coffee a cake and sit and talk with people. Use electric here to charge phones etc, use the internet (for many the internet has been the first thing they feel they have to do without at home).
We want to reduce isolation in the winter months and have a safe place where people can access other services as we can signpost them. But also receive services we offer, such as emergency food support and foodbank vouchers, help with gas/electric and also help with toiletries and basic hygiene products, as well as toilet rolls, washing up liquid and washing powder.
Its really important for people in the community to get to know each other and join together building community networks and friendships across age groups and other social differences. We have been a community hub in the centre of the island for over 25 years, so people know they can rely on us to be around and can help them and they trust us. We what to share lives with people and for us to be part of their journey, helping people with all kinds of difficulties, from homelessness to mental health issues, loneliness to addiction issues, debt and financial difficulties, we can support them and help them feel valued, worthy and loved. Increase their self esteem and how they manage in life.
