The Poirier Foundation trustees are very aware that isolation can be a killer and we do our utmost to make people feel cared for and welcome to join activities in safe comfortable surroundings.
We hold fortnightly lunches all year round, provide a transport scheme to medical appointments, help with shopping and give assistance during winter months to prevent falls by clearing and gritting private footpaths.
We want to extend our Winter Support scheme to ensure that vulnerable people are not going to suffer during the worst winter months having to remain in cold premises as they will have to cut down on heating costs.
Our members are extremely anxious about the massive increase in gas and electricity bills and worry about having to switch off appliances during the winter. With this project, our aim is to reduce isolation and improve health and wellbeing. No charge is made at sessions and transport is provided free too. People are able to save on energy bills and food.
Sessions are held at Winterton Methodist Church Hall, on 3 days a week for 5 hours per day.
Activities are including sports (New Age Kurling/Boccia), Craft, quizzes, storytelling, reminiscence, musical entertainment, magic show, etc.
People are served with soup, sandwiches/baked potatoes, cakes & hot drinks.
Money raised will be used to cover hall hire, transport to sessions, food and entertainment.
