We want to create a welcoming and friendly wine and spirit bar, showing off both local and international treats, for all tastes.
Chris and myself have been together for 9 years and have just finished up 10 years of working on super yachts, both together and apart. As adventurous and exciting as it was, we felt it was time to settle down and become land lovers.
We have always had a dream of owning a little beach bar somewhere but we’ll settle for a wine bar in rural Rutland! :)
Why Rutland? Well, Chris is local to the area and it seemed a good fit. Over the years of visiting, we have always thought that Oakham would benefit from a cosy wine bar. Somewhere to go after work, before dinner, after dinner or just a lazy Saturday afternoon cocktail session.
The last 18 months has been difficult, like for so many, we were apart and work was scarce, but we decided to peruse our dream anyway. Funding has been incredibly difficult because, let’s face it, who wants to fund a new hospitality business in a pandemic?!
After being let down by many financial institutions, we have been blessed with a local financier, who has seen something special in us and our concept. Our landlord has also been wonderful and so supportive. With all the support around us, we know Ovation is going to be a hit!
It’s been a gruelling few months, with builders letting us down and one or two bad apples trying to spoil things for us but we won’t let that stop us… we have come too far.
It’s weird asking for money but any little bit, that you could part with, would be so greatly appreciated! We need a last little push, both emotionally and financially, to get us over the finish line.
