Why we need your help
Local elections have been cancelled this year, but we have two by-elections on 1st May that give us two great opportunities to get more Green representation locally.
Hampshire County Council By-election for Winchester Eastgate
Hard-working Green campaigner Lorraine Estelle has been selected as your Green Party candidate for the upcoming by-election . Lorraine came second in the local elections in St Bartholomew last May pushing the Conservatives into 3rd place. We have a real chance of winning here.
Lorraine has been a Green Party member for a number of years. Living in the St. Bartholomew area makes her central to see all the issues which arise in Winchester.
Just recently, she arranged for a stall to be displayed outside the River Park Leisure Centre, inviting local residents to voice their views on what should happen to it.
"I hear concerns about our throw away culture and that they are keen to see local initiatives to reduce waste and encourage reuse. They want to see greater action to enable walking, cycling and viable public transport and the use of more affordable renewable energy. By listening to local people and working through our political system the Green Party can contribute to real change on these vital and urgent issues."
Winchester City Council By-election for Colden Common & Twyford
Liam Bailey-Morgan is your Green Party candidate for this by-election. He is a long-standing member of the Green Party and strong advocate for thinking global acting local.
Liam has worked in the humanitarian and international development sectors for over 16 years, and it was seeing first-hand the disastrous consequences of UK foreign policy, climate change and an unfair international economic system that led him to join the Green Party.
Liam is passionate about local politics and the issues that members of his community are concerned about in Twyford and Colden Common, particularly those that overlap with the Green Party’s values such as improved public transport, reducing the speed limit, and improved cycling provision.
Why do we need your money?
We have an enthusiastic team of willing volunteers working hard delivering newsletters and knocking on doors and are already seeing a shift in voting intentions.
However, we need to keep the momentum going, which is why we're asking you to help us raise £2,000 towards the cost of funding essential literature over the next few weeks.
Whether you can afford £5, £50 or £100 your donation will be well used and much appreciated.
Unlike larger parties, we rely entirely on donations direct to the local party from our members and supporters. We are not receiving any money from members' monthly subscriptions to the National Party. Any amount donated by you to this crowd funder, large or small will be used to pay for essential local campaign literature.
Please help us if you can.
Many Thanks,
Kate Needham
