New stretch target
Should we exceed our target we would love to buy additional lighting and masts to make an even better larger training area alongside a scrum machine to further improve our training opportunities

Where we have been
For over 10 years Wincanton Rugby Club have been playing at King Arthur's School where we had relocated to help restart rugby at the school. This was a success and worked out well for the school who are now self-sufficient and managing their own rugby needs, so we now need to refocus on our main Senior XV.
Where we are going
In order to grow as a club and attract new players, we are returning to Wincanton Sports Ground (in Moor Lane, Wincanton) from September 2020. To make this work we need to invest in the pitch, lighting, the training area, and we need new posts and other equipment to re-establish ourselves and survive as a club.
We are very happy to be returning to the Wincanton Sports Ground (WSG) which was our home when the sports ground was initially established in the 1990’s under the leadership of Peter Rochford and the Recreational Trust Committee. Our return sees us in a different area of WSG where we will play and train in one location.
What we need to achieve
We understand we may not reach the standards shown in the picture above however we will be aiming to turn a currently unused area of the sports ground into our home. We will need to provide suitable lighting to help us when the light is against us and training area for us to hone our skills. Alongside this the pitch needs a lot of TLC to get it up to suitable playing standard with a replacement set of posts installed (our current ones are older than some of our players) and to make us stand out we want to fence the pitch in to be in a position to be able to offer advertising boards to local companies to make us a sustainable club.
But not just about us
We are also hoping that if we can achieve this, we will be able to offer the area and our equipment for use by the local fitness bootcamp who are also limited by daylight or any other interested community groups who would be find the facilities a benefit.
Raising this money will enable us to make the pitch and training areas a place where people will enjoy participating and that they will be proud to have in their town.
Who's doing this
Run by a small and committed volunteer committee of ex and a couple of current players all the work is being done by us and we would welcome any new members to join us for the social side or fitness training if playing rugby is not your thing.
Why we need help
Wincanton Rugby Club’s main income is from its members and the generous local businesses who have kindly sponsored us in the past. with COVID bringing last season to an abrupt end and no known date for the restart of the 2020/21 season this means we will receive no income from match fees as we normally would.
It would be awesome if you were able to contribute to our cause to help us to reach our goal, and even if playing is not your thing, we would love to see you at the pitch-side and in the bar once our season restarts.
Please feel free to email any questions, comments or queries to [email protected]
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Best wishes
