Set on a spectacular surfing beach on the north Cornwall coast, Watergate Bay Hotel is the ideal location for a contemporary beach holiday. It’s a place that’s about the balance in life – being active, getting among the elements, eating and drinking well, chilling out and getting cosy. Most of all, it’s about having a good time.
Enter our prize draw for your chance of winning a luxury bed and breakfast stay for a family of four in a beach loft, with surf lessons and lunch in The Beach Hut.
Watergate Bay Hotel are keen to offer any help they can in support of the crisis in the Ukraine. As a hospitality business in Cornwall the team are delighted to be in a position to offer this prize to support Refugees At Home.
Refugees at Home is a UK charity which connects those with a spare room in their home to refugees and asylum seekers in need of a safe place to stay.
We’ve already received more than 11,000 new applications to host refugees since war broke out in Ukraine six weeks ago. We can only turn these applications into homes with your help.
By supporting this prize draw you will help Refugees At Home assess and support hosts to ensure that as many refugees as possible find a suitable, welcoming home.
More than 3 million people have already fled the Ukraine conflict to find safety in neighbouring countries.
We want to see as many refugees housed as soon as possible - however, homes must be properly assessed before a placement is made - a simple DBS check is not enough.
We conduct home visits, undertake assessments, and provide support to both refugees and the hosts to make sure that they always find a warm welcome in a suitable home - all of this takes time and resources.
Since 2016, we’ve provided over 200,000 nights of accommodation to refugees in need. We are a small dedicated team doing as much as we can, with little resource.
In the last few weeks we’ve received an unprecedented level of applications and our tiny team is beginning to feel the strain. We have a small employed team, which we expect to at least double in size in the near future. Hosts, Home Visitors and many of our core team are volunteers.
Since we formally began operating in February 2016 we have provided over 200,000 nights of accommodation all around the country – nights that would otherwise be spent sleeping on park benches, night buses or worse.
Our work supports refugees from many countries - 37,000 of whom are already here and currently living in hotels, costing the government millions of pounds every day. This includes 12,000 people from Afghanistan who were promised safety here and evacuated almost a year ago. It is our hope that we can alleviate this situation and find suitable loving homes for all refugees seeking safety in the UK.
Thank you for your overwhelming generosity and support on this campaign so far - we couldn’t do this without your help.
We were pleased to find hosts for our first guests from Ukraine at the beginning of March – a mother and baby. They were incredibly tired after such a long journey but very happy and surprised to receive such a warm welcome.
With your help, we are expecting to receive many, many more guests from Ukraine over the coming weeks.
Your donation will help us make sure everyone gets a warm welcome.
