INDIVIDUAL PRIZE
Win the chance to be a panda keeper for a day!
Enter from just £5 to win a panda prize like no other at Edinburgh Zoo. In a unique world-first, we are offering you the chance to be a panda keeper for a day! (Please note, this prize is only suitable for people aged 16 years and over.)
Can you imagine how special this will be? You’ll join our head panda keeper Alison Maclean bright and early as the keepers arrive at the zoo. Working alongside Alison in the panda house, you’ll help to care for Yang Guang and Tian Tian and give them everything they need. You’ll even have your own special panda keeper t-shirt to keep so you can look the part too!
With Alison to guide you, the first task will be checking the pandas had a good night and they are ready for their day. You’ll clean the panda house and set up everything these wonderful animals need. Preparing bamboo will take quite some time, since each animal eats an incredible 100kg of bamboo every day. Alison will let you in on our secret recipe for panda cake and show you how to make it – and then you can see how much the pandas love the special treat you made for them!
Alison can show you how to create their daily enrichment activities and then you can watch as playtime starts. You can also observe our expert vets as they carry out a panda health check.
As we all know, pandas enjoy a long nap... but while they are sleeping, you can still continue your unique experience with pandas – this time with our red pandas! Going behind the scenes, you can meet, feed and care for our much-loved red pandas, as well as spending time with some of our other keepers and species throughout the day. Then you’ll be back with the giant pandas, making sure Yang Guang and Tian Tian have everything they need in the panda house for the night.
Although the panda keeper experience is just for you, you can bring a loved one to share your visit to Edinburgh Zoo and enjoy seeing all the amazing animals while you are working. The keepers have chosen a special lunch menu for two, so you can catch up over lunch together in the Mansion House.
FAMILY/FRIENDS PRIZE
Win the chance to meet the panda keeper and a tour of our black and white animals!
Win a family/friends day-out like no other at Edinburgh Zoo with an expert guided tour of our special black and white animals! You’ll start by meeting our head panda keeper at the panda house and hear how to care for Yang Guang and Tian Tian. Ask everything you want to know about these amazing animals, learn about their house and enclosure and find out what’s involved in being a panda keeper.
Once you’ve enjoyed your time at the pandas, your guide will then take you to meet our other black and white animals and give you the opportunity to feed our ring-tailed lemurs, penguins, our Argentinian tegu and chimpanzees!
You’ll enjoy a mid-morning break as well as a special lunch. Your family/friends will then be free to spend the rest of the afternoon in the zoo. With a gift voucher to select a souvenir from the shop as you leave, this will be a day your family/friends will never forget!
(Please note up to five participants can take part in this experience. Participants need to be aged 5+ to participate in the animal feeds.)
