Help local children out of poverty through education

The Rainbow Fund for South Africa is the sole provider for a Homework School for 200 children aged 5 to 13, in Guguletu, one of the poorer townships of Cape Town. It provides a daily hot meal to each child,  pays for 8 teachers to assist with school work, takes the children on field excursions and holds annual exhibitions of the children’s work. It also has a programme in computer studies and painting and crafts which are unique to the Township. The charity is run by volunteers who donate the operating costs - so 100% of every donation goes directly to the school.

About The Rainbow Fund for South Africa

The Rainbow Homework School and Skills Programme costs £45,000 per annum to run and the money raised with this Prize Draw will guarantee the schools future for a further year.

The core aims of the school are to:

  • provide a safe and caring environment for the children to study
  • provide assistance in homework studies particularly those children who are struggling and therefore may leave school
  • ensure each child has a hot meal on the day they are attending
  • take the children on excursions outside of the Township that they would otherwise not be able to enjoy
  • provide additional learning facilities in the form of the Computer laboratory
  • run a skills programme in painting and arts and crafts to widen the children’s abilities
  • run Plumbing Workshops for the mothers of the children to give them a useful life skill and way to make extra money
  • Give the children HOPE for the future and show them a way out of poverty
