The Cause
Around 14,000 people in Luton experience domestic abuse every year. Most are women and their children experience that abuse too.
The festive period can be very challenging for women at risk. Families spend more time together and more money on gifts, food and activities. This can heighten tensions and trigger abusive behaviours. People may also drink more than usual and, whilst alcohol does not cause domestic abuse, it increases the risk of abusive behaviour and can be a catalyst for more severe or frequent incidents.
Stepping Stones (Luton) exists to support these families. Last year we helped over 485 vulnerable women and children in Luton and Central Bedfordshire on their journey from abuse and despair to healing and renewal.
Through tailored one-to-one support, group therapy, trauma counselling, practical help and specialist childcare services, we empower women to make positive life choices and create a better future for themselves and their children.
Find out more about us on the Stepping Stones Luton website.
