Ahead of International Sloth Day on Tuesday 20 October, we've launched a special fundraising prize draw giving one lucky winner the chance to meet Flash, Drusillas 10-year-old Linnes’s two-toed sloth, and Gemma Romanis, Drusillas Head Keeper, who helped hand-rear Flash from just a few weeks old - a whole decade ago!

The prize draw opens on 9th October, and runs until 31st October - the end of SlothTober! You are welcome to enter as many times as you like, with 100% of monies raised pledged to The Sloth Conservation Foundation.

The Experience

This truly unforgettable experience will give you the chance to meet Flash up close and an exclusive one-on-one chat with our Head Keeper Gemma, to discover everything about how she hand-reared Flash and ask anything you've ever wanted to know about sloths! An amazing experience lasting between 30 and 40 minutes which will leave you grinning from ear to ear.

This VIP Experience includes:

  • Full day admission to Drusillas Park for both participants
  • Sloth food preparations in our Zoo Kitchen
  • The chance to feed our sloths
  • One-on-one time with Head Keeper Gemma
  • The opportunity for some close-up sloth photography
  • Animal Encounter certificate
  • Sloth plush toy

As cute and cuddly as sloths may seem, they do not enjoy being touched or handled so our sloth experiences are non-contact, but they love taking snacks from your hands!

The experience is for a maximum of two participants (minimum age is 5 years, under 16s must be accompanied by an adult).

Full details on our sloth experiences and health and safety guidelines can be found on our website here.

The Cause

All proceeds from the prize draw will be donated to SloCo (the Sloth Conservation Foundation). Based in Costa Rica, SloCO is dedicated to the protection of sloths living in wild and human-modified habitats through research, education and community-based conservation.

Wild sloths are facing an increasingly dangerous world. As forests are cleared and fragmented by urbanisation, sloths can become isolated, stranded and exposed to threats including traffic, powerlines and attacks from domestic dogs.

Your entry could help fund practical projects that make a real difference to sloths in the wild, from Sloth Crossing canopy bridges and tree planting to GPS tracking collars that help researchers understand and protect wild sloth populations.

Currently we don’t know enough about the sloths living in the wild. Without reliable population data, it’s difficult to know where protection is most urgently needed, measure whether conservation projects are working, or provide governments with the evidence they need to safeguard vulnerable populations.

By entering the prize draw, you can help turn research into action - giving sloths safer ways to move, protecting their habitat and helping ensure they have a future in the wild.

Here are some of the costs that monies raised will go towards:

£190: Funds one Sloth Crossing canopy bridge, covering rope materials, climbing equipment, insurance, and safety for SloCos chief climber, Dayber.

£75: Plants 10 trees, including everything from seed to planting, post-monitoring, materials, and equipment.

£455: Spays and neuters 10 rescued dogs to help reduce the number of strays and prevent attacks on sloths and other wildlife.

£500: Funds one VHF collar for monitoring wild sloths.

SloCo are a registered charity in the United Kingdom (charity number 1170992).

Please read our competition terms and conditions before entering.
