The Cause

Reet Good Wood is a not-for-profit community interest company based in Greater Manchester.  We work with late diagnosed Neurodivergent Adults, those awaiting a diagnosis or those who self-identify as being Neurodivergent.

We use the art of furniture painting and other creative practices to help people develop their confidence, express themselves, make authentic connections, and reduce social isolation.

We bring life back to old furniture by combining sustainable practices with stunning design, helping you craft a truly personalised space. Each piece of our furniture is thoughtfully restored and custom-designed using high-quality materials, to ensure durability and charm.

Being Neurodivergent has its many challenges. It can be quite isolating at times, and some people often feel misunderstood, like they don't 'fit in' and can struggle to thrive in a world suited to their neurotypical peers.  For adults who are waiting for a diagnosis or those who have had a late diagnosis, there is a distinct lack of peer led support in the community; this needs to change.

In 2023, the Founder of  Reet Good Wood found calm by restoring , redesigning and painting furniture.  It gave her a positive outlet to process her thoughts, navigate her emotions and  started to improve her wellbeing.  She decided she wanted to share this with her peers within the Greater Manchester area; to provide a space for Neurodivergent adults to be creative, and was supported to bring the idea to reality. We currently rely on grant funding, sales of furniture and donations to continue to operate and host these vital sessions for Neurodivergent Adults. Any money generated from this crowdfunder will help us with operational costs (rent, materials, facilitation costs etc).

What our attendees say:

"Finally a place where I can be myself around other people like me."

"Thank you so much for letting me be me with no judgement."

"Thank you for this creative and safe space for us."

"I had a great time. It was nice to have a break from the chaos in my life for a couple of hours.  It made me feel a lot better and it was nice to be around people who weren't judgemental."
