Crowdfunding to match a donation from Sport England to drill a borehole in order to secure a sustainable supply of water for our course
At Willingdon Golf Club in Eastbourne, East Sussex, we offer golf to members and visitors across the region. We have been operating for over 125 years and have a reputation as a warm and welcoming club for golfers, members and visitors alike.
The course was designed by the legendary golf course architect Alister MacKenzie, whose strategic design features—including the famous two-tier greens—continue to challenge our members and visitors of all abilities.
We enjoy a unique position on the edge of the South Downs, providing spectacular views, naturally free-draining chalk soils and a course that is playable throughout much of the year. Members and visitors frequently comment on its exceptional year-round condition.
Like other golf clubs across the country, we face hotter, drier summers, rising water costs and increasing pressure on water supplies. The cost of keeping our greens and tees in first-class condition is escalating rapidly.
We are crowdfunding to support a project to drill a borehole on our land to provide a sustainable supply of water for maintaining our course.
We are very grateful to have secured a match funding donation of £15,000 from Sport England. We must raise the matching £15,000 to unlock this grant. The total raised will go towards funding the borehole project.
The borehole will provide a reliable and sustainable underground water source, dramatically reducing our reliance on expensive treated mains water. This will help to conserve valuable water resources for the local community.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success! Our CASC status makes us eligible to claim gift aid on your donations if you are a UK tax payer.
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3.Rewards.There will be opportunities to purchase rewards which include a range of goods and services from the club, with all proceeds going directly towards this project. Watch this space!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
