We are aiming to raise £35,000 to buy a new Cornish Pilot Gig boat and equipment.
Torridge Pilot Gig Club
Formed in 2006, we are based in Appledore, where we row and train on the beautiful Torridge Estuary. Our gig boats sit on the Quayside, enjoyed by the many visitors and locals who watch us launch and row.
Our first new wooden boat was Will-to-Win (named after the grandparents of two of our founder members, William and Winnifred).
Now in 2026 it is time to celebrate our 20th year. We want to build a new Will-to-Win. She will be built by a traditional Cornish Pilot Gig boat builder, made from elm, and will take roughly 6 months to complete.
We are hoping to raise £27,000 to fund the purchase of a boat and a further £8,000 towards oars, cover, and other equipment.
So far, club members, other grants, and donations have raised over half towards the boat at £14,750.
The first was Ruth's incredible rowing challenge. Ruth covered 250km on a rowing machine, despite having recently been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect.
More challenges to follow, so keep an eye on our Social Media for updates!
