To help save the lives of Highland cows and other animals, to live at Wilderlands and help rewild the land for the benefit of nature and all

We're still collecting donations

On the 8th January 2025 we'd raised £1,601 with 49 supporters in 42 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

We run this nature recovery site and so far we have rescued 4 highland cows, Lilly, Ishabael and Alys, wee Bannu was born on Summer solstice 2023 as a total surprise, then sadly we lost the sweet Lilly after she had contracted  pneumonia before we rescued her last winter.

Yesterday we saw this advert :"Sad sale of our beautiful girl, Fern. Highland X heifer, great temperament, 100% grass fed and been outwintered all year with ease. Loves head scratches, getting hay in her hair and scratching in the woods! Will need to be with other cows and would make a great Mum one day."

And we thought we can save many Highland cows like this to live good lives with your help. She is so beautiful. You can help us save her....

We are looking at rescuing another 10 highland cows this spring to live their full lives without being slaughtered, to live out their natural lives at our site in Sussex.

You too can help save a highland cows life, if you donate you can then come and visit them next summer, where they will live a natural life amongst 300 acres of wild meadows and forests….

We all can guarantee they will live full happy healthy lives, helping nature and each other thrive. They will help rewild the land.

We have identified some cows that can be saved from being killed, if you would like to help save them with us, that would be amazing.

We are a small CIC and have very little funds and have so far done this on a shoestring, but today we thought that maybe other folk love highlands like we do and would like to help save some and sponsor them.

Each cow costs up to £1200 with transport to get them to us, we will then take care of the rest. You can come and  visit them and  even camp on the farm in the summer and help with Wilderlands for a day or two. We will contact people who have donated and let them know times and availability.

Wilderlands is 20 acres of 5 medieval meadows, collaborating with our partners who have invited us to be custodians of 225 acres of ancient forest and another 78 acres of wild meadows in Sussex not far from Lewes. Bringing together 303 acres for nature and wildlife.

We are one of the UK's newest rewilding sites and our is aim to create a haven for biodiversity in all its forms.

Our focus in the meadows is regenerative farming alongside planting orchards, building ponds, restoring scrub, reinstating traditional hedgerows, letting wild flower meadows return, and creating a forest garden. This project is becoming a home for highland cattle, pigs, rare beed chickens and ducks who will enjoy a mix of meadow and forest grazing.

The ancient woodland has varied habitats, including tributaries of the River Ouse, small streams and old ponds, with many different tree species. The woodland is home to traditional master craftsman, Hope Springs Chairs. Next year we hope to reintroduce Beavers a keystone species that can have the capacity to create immense positive change and biodiverse habitats.

Wilderlands was launched in 2020 to support nature at this critical time.
All around the world we are losing our wildlife, natural habitats, our wild eco systems and natural resources at an unprecedented rate.

The populations of the UK’s most important wildlife have plummeted by an average of 60% since 1970, according to the most comprehensive analysis to date. The Living Planet Report (2022) outlined that losses to all animals, plants and marine life show no sign of letting up, despite some successes in protecting individual species. It found that 41% of species have decreased in abundance. A quarter of UK mammals and nearly half of the birds assessed are at risk of extinction.
