Save Our Wild Isles Community Fund has provided £1,500 of match funding
Exploring and supporting nature in Poplar. Investigating the ecology of the neighbourhood and taking action to build new habitats.
What we are fundraising for?
2023 has been a brilliant year for R-Urban, we've run over 50 workshops and engaged over 700 people about sustainability, food growing, cooking, repairs and re-use. It's also now our 6th year of building up our "green oasis" on the Teviot.
In 2024, we want to continue this success by studying and supporting local biodiversity and nature in Poplar through a workshop programme which increases our connection to nature and builds habitats for other species.
This crowdfunder is an opportunity to support a new programme of workshops called Wild Poplar. Throughout the Spring and Summer we'll be exploring the local neighbourhood, finding out what plants, animals and insects that currently call Poplar home, before taking positive actions to help build and strengthen new habitats through planting, by installing nest boxes, by building wetlands and much more.

How the money will be spent?
All the funding will go towards the direct project costs of facilitating our workshop programme, including all the materials, plants and resources needed for habitat creation in Poplar.
The save our wild isles match fund at 2 to 1, meaning for every £10 donation we receive a further £20 from the matchfund! We welcome all donations big and small and we've got some rewards on offer for all who can donate.
Workshops will be free to attend for all ages, and will provide creative ways to engage with nature and wildlife in Poplar. Each workshop will be documented creating a growing archive, which records "What lives in Poplar" and celebrates local biodiversity.

What we'll fundraise with our stretch target?
If we're successful in raising our initial goal extra funding will go towards:

Aviva Community Fund has provided £380 of match funding
Aviva Employee Giving has provided £200 of match funding
