Create a wildlife pond at Wild Pinebeck, Somerset

At Wild Pinebeck, we want to create a large, wildlife-friendly pond to support our growing ecosystem — but we need your help to make it happen.

Our vision: Wild Pinebeck is a mini rewilding site in the heart of the Mendips. It's a shining green oasis ringed by public footpaths, including the long distance footpath, The West Mendip Way.

You can walk right past our rewilding project! You can even come and stay with us (we're on Airbnb).

We've been managing the land for five years now by creating a woodland meadow, rich in diverse flowers and grasses, planting a mini heritage orchard, and caring for our woodland to reduce ash dieback and remove scrub.

So far we've put up red mason bee boxes, hedgehog boxes, maternity roosting boxes for bats, bird boxes for redstarts and pied flycatchers. We've planted over 1000 trees - 50 rowans, 50 silver birch and 1000 hedgerow plants. We've also planted 20 heritage varieties of apple, pear, plum, damson and crab apple, and created a copse of blackthorn and native crab apple

With the help of volunteers and our local school, Sidcot International, we've created paths through the meadow, orchard and Lilac and Bluebell Woods.

How we will use the money:

We would like funding to help us with this final step—a pond that will bring wildlife flooding into the area. This will help the environment flourish and become a haven for plants and animals.
