Aim

Support WIILMA continue it's vital work tackling loneliness & isolation & building cohesion through inclusivity, creativity and culture.

Creativity & compassion connects us

At WIILMA, we tackle loneliness which similar to unexpected illness and disability can affect any one of us, at any stage of life, regardless of our age or socioeconomic background.

Taking us often from employment to unemployment, poverty to loneliness and once there having an embracing community who sees us for who we are, there to help us have some respite and feel less isolated and a part of a community, can make an invaluable difference.

We warmly welcome people from all backgrounds into our city whether here for work or study, turning strangers into community.

We've been actively working to break barriers & build compassionate community bridges between people across different ages and backgrounds, through a vehicle of education, innovation, creativite health, focussed on our shared history, heritage, music, arts and culture.

More than ever before we believe rather than accepting things need to be this way, we are bringing people together from different walks of life through kindness, in shared positive experiences, brings them closer together  turning strangers into community.

Powered by passionate, humble volunteers who simply want to do good and make a difference we have a proven strong track record https://www.wiilma.org/about-us what people find remarkable is that we have achieved all of this with no staff or premises of our own, powered by volunteering.

We are also volunteer community ambassadors for the British Library, Business & IP Centre supporting the relationship between the business, public and voluntary sector and encouraging business and social enterprise startups, you may have seen us running across various tube & high street campaigns.

As a community voice in London, we not only provide ideas but solutions also on tackling health inequalities & increasing vital accessibility to Music, Arts & Culture to people with seen and unseen disabilities, who all deserve a chance to come together but can’t currently do so, as where you live and the disabilities you have sadly still determines what you have access to.

However we face an exisential threat, and everything costs money, whether cabs getting our equipment from A to B, providing some volunteer travel & lunch expenses to people who couldn't otherwise volunteer and contribute (which also boosts  a sense of purpose and self esteem) as some examples. Support to grow & keep our vital, innovative work going, we have now launched our very first crowdfunder in 7 years, to  secure our ability to serve our deserving community and continue to be a voice for marginalised people, including those with seen and unseen disabilities.

Your support will help us provide creative, inclusive opportunities and spaces where people can connect, grow, and thrive.

But we cannot do it alone. We need your help to expand our reach and keep these vital programs running. By backing our crowdfunder, you directly fuel and support creativity that heals and unites.

Help WIILMA connect people, reduce isolation, and support wellbeing. Let’s build stronger, more inclusive communities through the power of culture. Join us and fund change today.

We believe creativity has the power to bring people together, improve wellbeing and open doors to new possibilities.

A song, a shared story, an art project, a cultural celebration or simply being welcomed into a space where you feel you belong can create connections between people whose paths might otherwise never cross.

Creativity can also build confidence, support mental wellbeing, develop new skills and give people opportunities to discover what they are capable of.

That is what WIILMA is all about.

Who we are

WIILMA is a grassroots, volunteer-led, not-for-profit community arts organisation using creativity, culture, heritage and shared experiences to help reduce loneliness and isolation, strengthen community connections and create opportunities for people to participate, learn and express themselves.

We want people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to feel welcome and able to take part.

At the heart of WIILMA are openness, kindness, support, friendship and imagination.

Since WIILMA began in 2019, we have explored creative ways of responding to real challenges within our communities and bringing people together through music, art, culture, heritage, community education and creative health and wellbeing.

Creating opportunities for graduates and emerging talent

WIILMA is also committed to creating opportunities for people who are trying to build their careers.

The transition from education into employment can be challenging, particularly for graduates and early-career people trying to gain the practical experience employers increasingly look for. Especially as many entry level roles are disappearing as an inevitable consequence of some types of automated technology, so volunteering is more important in playing this career role than ever before.

Through volunteering and involvement in WIILMA projects, people can have opportunities to use and develop their skills in real-world settings, contribute ideas, take responsibility and build experience across areas such as:

  • arts and creative projects
  • events and project delivery
  • communications and marketing
  • community engagement
  • research
  • photography and media
  • administration
  • partnerships
  • fundraising and sponsorship
  • health and community initiatives

We want WIILMA to be a place where people can both share the skills they already have and develop new ones.

What does WIILMA do?

Our work takes many different forms because communities and their needs are different.

Over the years, WIILMA projects have included community music and singing, arts and heritage programmes, intergenerational projects, disability inclusion, cultural education, community resilience initiatives and activities designed to tackle isolation and create opportunities for connection.

Our projects have ranged from supporting women's shelters during the pandemic (continuing to make referrals behind the scenes) creating an international lockdown art project, to London's first Adult ADHD & Allies Music & Peer support programme to tackle loneliness, community heritage programmes, music projects, support for people experiencing bereavement & loss and initiatives bringing people from different generations and cultures together.

Our Windrush 75 – Caribbean Queen & Kings project, for example, helped around 1,500 schoolchildren and adults learn about Windrush through an intergenerational music project.

Although the projects may look very different from one another, they share one purpose:

Using creativity as a way of connecting people and creating community.

Why we are fundraising

WIILMA is grassroots and powered by volunteers.

We do not have large budgets like bigger organisations, but we have big ambitions for what community creativity can achieve.

To continue developing and delivering our work, we need your support.

Funds raised through this Crowdfunder will help WIILMA:

  • deliver and develop community projects, including creative health and wellbeing activities
  • provide venues, materials and equipment that make our activities possible
  • reach and include more people through outreach, accessibility and transport support
  • remove barriers to volunteering by helping to cover volunteer expenses
  • give graduates and people early in their careers opportunities to build practical skills and experience
  • develop new projects and partnerships that help WIILMA grow sustainably

These things may happen behind the scenes, but they are essential to our mission to reduce loneliness and isolation as well as increase community cohesion.

What your support makes possible

By supporting WIILMA, you are helping us create more opportunities for people to connect, participate, learn, create, develop and belong.

Your contribution can help us:

  • reduce loneliness and social isolation
  • support mental wellbeing through creativity and connection
  • bring together people of different ages, cultures, backgrounds and abilities
  • provide accessible opportunities to experience arts, culture and community
  • give graduates, people early in their careers opportunities to build practical skills and experience and those returning to work after illness, maternity etc
  • strengthen our volunteer-powered work and develop new community projects

No contribution is too small.

Together, many individual acts of support can give a grassroots organisation like WIILMA the resources and confidence to keep creating, experimenting and responding to the communities around us.
