We are a group of volunteers who make no money from Wigfest. Wigfest is a fund raising event where all profits from the event go to cancer and locally related charities, in memory of a few friends who have died of cancer far too young.
It is a family friendly festival with music, children's entertainment, food, camping etc and over the past 10 years we have raised thousands of pounds for a number of charities including, CLIC Sergeant, Children's Hospice South West, THHN, Air Ambulance Service.
This year's event is at a new site comprising of 2 fields with no infrastructure in place. This has meant that we have to supply the electricity, water, food, buildings, security and medical staff etc which will put a huge dent in any donations that we can give to the charities.
We are looking for donations so that we can cover our costs and be able to give a donation to the charities. We need the £4000 target to cover these costs and that will ensure that all money raised over the weekend will be going to the charities.
With only 17 days left to the start of the festival we are worried that we may not even break even. This would end the hope of any future Wigfest events so please help us to keep this venture alive.
This year’s charities are Rowcroft Hospice (http://www.rowcrofthospice.org.uk), Proud2Be (http://www.proud2be.co.uk) and Transfiguration (http://transfigurations.org.uk). Rowcroft Hospice offer excellent care for terminally ill patients and family. Proud2Be and Transfiguration offer support and care to individuals who are often victimized in our society for their sexuality or gender. According to the charity Metro Youth Chances, 83% of transgender young people have been bullied, 35% have suffered physical attacks, and 27% have attempted suicide.
