We want to bring the 'Why Are We Whispering' podcast by Jennie Guay to film by incorporating some of the most powerful and impactful stories to the front line. Inspired by one of the brave guests on Season 1 of the podcast, this first episode of this docu-series will be focused on the Rape Reporting Process in the UK and how it retraumatises and dehumanises those that come forward and report their rape. That episode, can be listened to here: Why Are We Whispering? With Jennie Guay: I Survived Rape...and This is What Happened After: A Survivor's Story with host, Jennie Guay on Apple Podcasts
Rape Reporting in the UK
Alarmingly 4 out of 5 rapes in the UK go unreported and only 2 out of 100 rapes that are reported result in a conviction.
What has happened to the rape reporting process in the UK? Why are we not protecting rape victims? Why is the conviction rate so incredibly low? Was the rape reporting process every fit for purpose? What does it say about what we value in the UK?
We want to open the lid on the rape reporting process with interviews with rape survivors, their family members, police officers, the barristers that represent them, the Victim Liaison Office and Trauma Therapist and more. We aim to inform the general public, who are not familiar with the law enforcement and judicial systems that underpin British society, on what to expect should you actually be brave enough to report your rape. And to hopefully, empower survivors to come forward and increase the number of rape reports to reflect how many rapists roam free in the UK.
We can only do this with your help!
Jennie and Simone will interview, film and narrate the documentary but we need help to fund the editing process and cover costs so we can make this film. It is such an important message to share, to be heard and to stop the whispering!
