The Empire Cafe has been exploring why the River Clyde is not the vibrant river Glasgow deserves. Through the course of their investigations, co-founders, writer Louise Welsh and architect Jude Barber, created the podcast 'Who owns the Clyde?' with co-producer Halina Rifai.
Jude and Louise are hosting a live mapathon on Saturday 21st June 2025 at the Briggait, Glasgow as part of Architecture Fringe 2025. This experimental afternoon of collective mapping of land ownership along the River Clyde is an opportunity to contribute towards their ongoing investigation into fragmented and opaque land ownership.
Throughout the course of the afternoon a small team of volunteers will work together to search for ownership of sites along the Clyde focused primarily between Glasgow Harbour and Glasgow Green in the city limits.
You are invited to front fund the costs for ownership searches or a select a printed 'citizen bond', designed by Edwin Pickstone of Glasgow School of Art, for £5.00 Reward via our Crowdfunder (which can only be collected in person on 20th June). These costs cover the cost of one search (£3.50 plus VAT) to the Land Register of Scotland. At our event on 20th June, you can pay in cash on the day or purchase bonds via this Crowdfunder that you can pay forward for others.
