The aim of this crowdfunder is to secure the long term future of The Whitby Dracula Society 1897, which works to support the heritage of Bram Stoker's Dracula, which is culturally important to the visitor economy of Whitby, which has been devastated by Covid.
The Society was founded to celebrate the cultural importance that novel Dracula, and its author Bram Stoker has had over the last century, and to celebrate its blood ties with its spiritual birthplace of Whitby, situated on the North Yorkshire coast of England.
The Society work hard, on a daily basis to promote and curate, all aspects of the heritage of Dracula, Stoker and all other related gothic interests in Whitby, and undertake regular walking tours covering all the key sites of interest to both vampire buffs and the general public.
'World Dracula Day' was formally created by The Whitby Dracula Society 1897 in 2012 and public interest has grown year on year and it is now a world wide celebration of all things Dracula,. It held on May the 26th each year This is the date of the first publication of Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Up to now the Society has survived on small voluntary donations from supporters from across the world, who have visited the town and taken part in one of our educational tours.
We now need to urgently secure extra funding to enable us to get our various website resources updated and re hosted. We also need to design and print new leaflets for when visitors return to the town post covid. We also need to pay our 2021 membership fee's to various trade organisation's we work with. We also need to secure a P.O.Box.
So we now invite you to join us on Vlad Tepes journey from Voivode to Vampire, via Victorian Whitby.
