Aim

We are looking for your help to make Where was I? A short film about choice. Please choose to help and support this great project!

The Story

For anyone who has suffered loss in their life, you will understand how grief can torment a soul. When grief devours your life it can spiral to a point of no return. Some people are lucky to have an outlet. A source of release. But what happens when that source brings you more pain? This is where we find our young poet JJ.

Our protagonist hasn’t had the best start in life. Raised in poverty with no family he has navigated his way through  his struggles. Not having a chance to be better than what the world wanted him to be.

Writing becomes his outlet. His expression. He soon finds the words flow effortlessly when he falls in love with Meg. For the first time in his life everything starts to fall into place. His talent is encouraged and he pursues his dreams. He knows his life is about to change, he just wasn’t expecting it to get worse.

He is given an amazing opportunity to showcase his talent as a spoken word poet. But soon finds that chasing his dreams loses him the only thing that gave him hope, Meg.

Our story starts 18 months later.

JJ, has allowed his guilt and torment to drag him to lowest of lows. Giving up on his talent and himself. With nowhere else to go he is given two choices to change his life. Will he rewrite it or forever live in pain?

Why Now?

The theme of this story is choice. The choices we make and where these choices lead us.

We live in a time where things are forever changing. When faced with change we always find choice.

We believe the time to tell this story is now. This is a story that everyone can relate to.

But that isn’t possible without your help! With your support we hope to bring you a film that is not only engaging but also speaks to the world.

Your Donations

We are currently in the pre-production stages. The script is completed and we are now trying to secure cast, crew and locations. We plan to go into production mid-Feb (2022) but that will not be possible without your help and support. 

The target of £10,000 will go towards the production of Where was I?

Each donation will contribute towards expenses, including, travel, accommodation and catering. It will pay for locations, props and set design. The money raised will also allow us to bring in some talented cast and crew which will help to elevate the script and bring the pages to life.  

Bringing together a professional and creative team will mean Where was I? will continue to be a collaborative project that showcases not only a story worth telling but also what a collective of creatives can do.

We have also allocated part of the budget for festivals once the film has been completed.

The Team (so far)

Kat McMillan - Writer/Producer

Kat is a recent MA scriptwriting graduate from Bath Spa university. After writing this script as part of her course, she was unable to get it made due to the pandemic and restrictions.

Now out in the real world of filmmaking she is making her debut as a writer/producer with Where was I?

Finding her love for visual storytelling came while studying creative writing. Now wanting to turn her dream into a reality she is excited to already have some incredibly experienced and talented people on the team. Immersing herself fully into the whole experience she is looking forward to seeing the pages come to life.

Kae Bahar - Director/Producer

Kae is an award-winning Director and international documentary filmmaker and actor who has produced films for Channel 4, BBC and Al Jazeera. Kae’s debut film drama ‘I am Sami’ received 150 screenings at international film festivals, winning 53 awards. 

Being invested in this project from the start, his experience, vision and skill will elevate the script into something amazing.

Tom Douglas - Editor

Tom is a freelance motion designer/illustrator based in Bath. After graduating from The University of Bath he has enjoyed a successful career working with some big named companies on projects that have been shown all around the world. 

Tom not only brings an eye for detail but his creativity and talent in post will add that extra bit of magic. Bringing the art of storytelling to the next level.
