Aim

The YWFA challenges gender inequality in film. What is your Super Power? Is a Superhero film created entirely by girls & young women.

We are a group of girls and young women aged 12 years and over, from the North East of England. We attend the Young Women's Film Academy and the regular Saturday Club in Newcastle upon Tyne. Together we make films in an all women environment on issues we think are important to us and other girls and young women. Our charity is brand new, our aims are to improve the life chances of girls and young women, raise our aspirations and educate us on important issues and give us skills for our future. We have very limited funds in which to help us run the project and enable us to attend the workshops as we rely on safe transport due to the needs we have as young women. Some of us are young carers, some of us have disabilities, some of us are newly arrived in England and all of us from time to time struggle with our emotional wellbeing. All of our previous films have been made by fundraising and voluntary support, this is getting harder and harder to achieve so we are hoping YOU might be able to help.

We would like to make a film about the importance of recognising our own individual identities and powers we have, to change the world around us and make life better for our community.

Because not all Super Heroes wear capes.

We have developed a really exciting storyline and designed some characters based on our film idea...

In an ordinary high school a group of teenage girls potentially have superpowers.  But there is one thing in the way, the school bully. Will they work together to overcome the evil school bully? The great granddaughter of the evil Babayaga, the well known witch who decides your fate?

Exploring the issues of what teenage girls go through such as self confidence, appearance, friendship and bullying,

this film will enable audiences of girls and young women to identify with the characters and learn that we all have superpowers and the potential to change the world. Even in small ways, even in adversity.

If we manage to make our All or Nothing target we can can unlock 50% support through #CrowdfundNewcastleCulture so please help us make this a reality!
