OUR AIM FOR WHALLEY CRICKET CLUB

- To invest in our clubhouse and our grounds so families can utilise our facilities and maximise time spent playing the sport

- All the above will improve the club and make it more player friendly.
- We are also very lucky to have the bowling club, the football fields and the tennis club as neighbours in the same grounds.
- Through future collaborations we wish to welcome all Whalley sport to benefit from our upgraded clubhouse and facilities.
- Our new Chairman Nick Fielden and our vice chairman Shonti Muckherjee are spearheading the Club

Whalley Cricket Club are hugely grateful for all the time and dedication from the Managing Director of Castle Joinery, Paul Howarth. The grounds, the sponsorship boards, the trades and jobs completed by Castle Joinery quietly go unnoticed as the general maintenance is carried out
GROUND INVESTMENT
- In the true spirit of cricket, we also need to invest in our grounds
- Our ground equipment is needing replacing for the future upkeep of our wickets
- Crowdfunding and Sport England will allow us to do this through raising funds
- Investment in new lawn mowers, new wicket covers and absorbent rollers will all ensure we keep our grounds fit for play
- We also want to invest in more hours for our groundsman to care for the wickets and grounds
- We want to sign up to a ground care package to ensure full aeration and preparation of our soil and our grass

ENCOURAGE RECREATION
- Investment is needed to replace our benches around the grounds
- We aim to replace with composite benches that will last for many years to come
- Sponsorship of these benches from local companies
- Sponsorship from local families who wish to remember a dear departed loved one

PROUD HISTORY OF WHALLEY CRICKET CLUB
- Whalley Cricket Club is situated in the picturesque Ribble Valley in Lancashire in 1860
- The proud host of the first ever Roses Cricket match between Lancashire and Yorkshire in 1867
- We have a beautiful backdrop of trees and parks and in the summer it’s idyllic for families to come and relax and enjoy
- The Settle to Carlisle train ambles past the club fostering bygone memories of the classic age of steam

COMMUNITY SPIRIT OF WHALLEY
- Whalley Cricket Club has a large catchment area within its surrounding community
- Several new and expanding housing developments around Calderstones, Barrow, Mitton, Whalley, Sabden and Billington areas
- Whalley Cricket Club is very much a community based sports club
- With 350 members, running boys and girls cricket teams from under 7’s through to under 18’s through to 4 senior teams
CRICKET COACHING
- Coaching and training sessions are held throughout the year with fully qualified ECB coaches working with the children
- Progression can be seen often as they age through to the adult teams as highly accomplished teenage cricket players
- We also have many youth coaches who Volunteer their time who are Tom Cameron, Harry Gray, Mitch, Ruth, Taylor, Kitty, Martin, Kerry, Rory, Gav, Zoe, Simon, Mike, Ronan, and Dave
- We have also funded Level 2 LCC cricket coaching for adults and young adults for four of our coaches to gain qualifications. Mike Parker, Dave Crossley and Ronan Boyle and our first female coach Zoe Holden.
- With the new ladies team being set up this year, coached by Christian Cameron and Simon Davies. Ensuring we don’t loose our exceptionally good female cricketers as they become teenagers
- We also offer Tots Cricket run by Michelle Brennan independently of Whalley Cricket Club. Offering very young children the opportunity to have fun playing the game
FUNCTION OF THE CLUB
- The biggest part of the function of the club is to act as a community base for a number of functions, such as family celebrations and parties
- Local music bands such as “Drive” regularly perform to help raise funds
- We hold BBQ’s under marquees to ensure functions can still happen, despite the weather
- The community together, helping and supporting each other in fund raising activities to help the club continue to offer support to local people
- The bar is managed by volunteers who consist of the Cameron family, Christian and Caroline, James and Lia to name but a few who support the busy weekend trade when matches are played. A role not overlooked when home matches are on

LADIES PROSECCO CRICKET TOURNAMENTS
- We also host Prosecco cricket throughout the summer, and over the last few years encouraged more mothers and daughters to take up the game of cricket
- This is a fantastic addition to our club, engaging everyone to play cricket at different levels of fun
- We are also planning to host family matches and parent vs offspring to encourage families to play cricket together
- We are also having Ladies Training and matches on a Thursday evening, which we are getting kit sponsorship for that too

- We have strong collaborations set up with our local school, Oakhill
- We have agreed a three year partnership to sponsor our club and share each other’s facilities
- The school has fantastic indoor facilities where we offer children’s indoor coaching sessions before the season starts

- School also benefits from our ECB coaches
- Our own groundsman Billy Lamb helps prepare the wickets for their games

VOLUNTEERS DIGGING A HOLE FOR THEMSELVES - NEW SIGNAGE PREPARATION
- Volunteers worked enthusiastically digging holes
- Slowly getting the new sponsorship boards displayed required new posts and fencing, and a lot of concrete mixing
- Our Vice Chair overseeing the work in progress
- We also run a Groundwork day a couple of weeks before the season starts. Even more volunteers help out in the clubhouse and with the grounds



MENTAL HEALTH & WELL-BEING
- We host Zumba classes with Bev who has volunteered on numerous occasions to raise funds by holding her class before the Prosecco cricket matches. A fantastic fun
- Fitness training and yoga classes have also hosted their events on our grounds to help raise funds
- This is in the spirit of healthy bodies, healthy minds and a healthy community of Whalley

- We now have support from our local engineering company Harrison’s
- Our First Team Captain, Frankie is employed by the company
- Frankie approached his Managing director to ask for financial support for the club
- We have an excellent relationship forming
- Harrison’s are very keen in supporting the local community

- We are very much looking forward to working alongside Sport England
- We want to foster and develop deeper relationships with ECB and LCC over the coming season, and for years to come
- Investment now in our young players will pay off in the future
- Our main ground sponsor is Oakhill school who are linked to LCC old Trafford and who are coaching and mentoring the local children
