To record the string quartet music of William Henry 'Billy' Reed, close friend of Elgar and Leader of the London Symphony Orchestra.
As part of a series which is bringing to life unjustly neglected British chamber music, MPR (www.mikepurtonrecording.com) are intending to record the surviving string quartet music by WH Reed. 'Billy' Reed was born in Frome, Somerset in 1876 and studied Violin and Composition at the Royal Academy of Music. He became a close friend of Sir Edward Elgar and was the second and longest serving Leader (1912-35) of the newly formed London Symphony Orchestra. Reed was a composer of great quality and his string quartets have never been professionally recorded.
The recording sessions, with the excellent Cirrus String Quartet (www.cirrusstringquartet.com) will be on February 16/17/18 in the beautiful acoustic of the Pamoja Hall in Sevenoaks, Kent, which is like a more intimate version of Snape Maltings. The recording engineer will be the internationally acclaimed Tony Faulkner and I will be producer and editor. The recording will be released on compact disc and for download in the autumn of 2022.
To make this recording over three days at the highest quality we need to raise a minimum of £5,000 (hopefully £7,000) to cover costs for the venue, recording engineer, some post-production costs, artwork and manufacture and we would like to provide the performers with a reasonable fee for their time preparing and recording this music. We are looking elsewhere for grant support but every pound donated towards this project will help it come to fruition and may even go towards supporting us for future projects. This recording will be marketed and sold worldwide through Willowhayne Recordings and NAXOS Select. We can never predict sales but the more cash we can raise, the more projects can be planned.
There are REWARDS for supporters - please read on!
With best wishes
