To regenerate the Wetland Wildlife area by establishing beautiful permanent ponds to allow nature to flourish and survive climate change.
The Friends of Centre Vale Park need your help to restore the neglected wetland area in Centre Vale Park. We want to create a beautiful space for wildlife and for all of us to enjoy. The wildlife around us is in desperate need of permanent wetland places to survive climate change, and this project will help.
Stage 1
After three years of investigation, discussions and planning we now have an immediate opportunity to make a start with our project this Autumn.
We are thankful to Calderdale Council Countryside Team for their offer to provide the labour if we can cover the costs of materials (wooden fencing for an enlarged area) and equipment (3-tonne digger).
We are half-way towards the Stage 1 costs of £5,000. Todmorden Town Council Climate Emergency Committee have conditionally committed £1,250 specifically toward Stage 1 on the basis the £5,000 target is reached, and the Friends of Centre Vale Park are also able to pledge £1,250
We need your help in raising the other half: £2,500
The plans create interconnected ponds, subtle raised banks, and layered water catchment areas to retain floodwaters within the wetland zone and lessen overflow on to the public path.

Stage 2
Any money raised beyond £5,000 will go toward Stage 2 - we anticipate this will require a further £5,000 for the design and construction of a boardwalk (something like the one below) a viewing platform, planting schemes, bird and bat boxes, and public educational information boards.

With diverse planting and habitat types, coppiced areas and wildflower meadows we will develop a rich ecology, providing vital food sources and nesting grounds for our wildlife, including bees, birds, amphibians, butterflies, dragonflies and bats!

Together, we could really make a difference.
