This is our chance to get The Green Party on the ballot so that voters across Western Somerset have the opportunity to vote Green in this General Election.
Standing a candidate at a General Election raises the profile of the Green Party locally, contributes to support for our MPs nationally through Short Money, and provides an opportunity for supporters and other voters to voice their concerns in the fight against climate chaos and to argue for a society that works for everybody by voting Green.
Western Somerset Green Party is supporting candidates in:
- Bridgwater
- Taunton and Wellington
- 50% of the Tiverton and Minehead deposit.
Your donations will contribute towards election deposits, as well as printing campaign literature for the General Election to ensure each household receives a leaflet.
The area of Western Somerset includes the constituency of Tiverton and Minehead. This constituency is shared between two local parties, and it has been agreed that Western Somerset Green Party will contribute half of the deposit for the Tiverton and Minehead candidate, Laura Buchanan.
Your Candidates
Charles Graham for Bridgwater
Charles Graham first stood as a General Election candidate for Bridgwater & West Somerset in 2005. Alongside and after a career as a fruit grower and HGV lorry driver with local companies, Charles has served the Green Party as Coordinator for Sedgemoor & West Somerset, the Southwest Regional Green Party and currently as Coordinator for the Western Somerset Green Party.
A lifelong Bridgwater area resident, he has served as a parish councillor and secondary school governor.
Charles is familiar with and shares the everyday budgeting difficulties most of us are currently experiencing. He knows there isn't a more powerful electoral message than to vote Green. Charles is seeking your vote, to ensure solutions chosen to today’s challenges, including the climate and nature, are fair and affordable.
Ryan Trower for Taunton and Wellington
Ryan joined the Green Party in May 2023, inspired by the Green success in that year’s local elections.
Ryan believes that politics is something we should do, not something that should be done to us. He believes the Green Party offers politics we can all do, based on progressive ideas and local issues.
“I want to bring this kind of politics to Taunton and Wellington; working with you to make our towns fairer and greener, and fit for a sustainable future.”
Away from the Green Party, Ryan is a photographer. He works at Bridgwater and Taunton College as a photography and media technician, where he is also the just transition officer for the University and College Union (UCU), and sits on the college climate action committee.
How Your Money Helps
Every donation helps. If you can spare the money, please contribute generously to our fundraiser in support of our Green candidates.
- £25 - This is a real help towards standing a Green candidate. If 20 people chipped in £25, we’d fund a candidate’s deposit.
- £50 - This pays 10% of a Green candidate's deposit. If 10 people chipped in £50, we’d fund a candidate’s deposit.
- £75 - £75 is a major help towards a deposit
- £100 - This pays 20% of a deposit - thank you! 5 donations of £100 would fund a deposit.
- £500 - Fund a whole deposit - massively helpful!
Short Money
Every vote for the Green Party translates into funding for MPs of our party during the next Parliament so they can challenge the other parties through what is known as Short Money.
P.S. Because we're a political party we're required to run electoral register checks from people making donations above £500, and if you donate over £1,500 during a year, we are required to let the Electoral Commission know, who will make this available on their website. All donations go to general campaigning funds.
